Listen, annotate, connect

Audio Lab

Listen to the example recordings, search them by sound and keep notes on the passages you find. The same page connects to a Tierline server running on your own computer, which checks permissions for every request. To add your own files in the browser, use the Workspace.

Listen and take notes

Listen, search and keep notes on passages

Play a recording, select a short passage, and search for passages that sound like it. Notes stay attached to the exact span of audio they describe.

Example recordings · in this browser
Search runs in your browser. The example recordings are excerpts of two public-domain recordings of real speech: a 1994 Navy oral-history interview and a reading of Samuel Pepys’s diary. Choose a passage and find similar audio with log-mel features and subsequence DTW. To work with your own files, use the Workspace; the reference engine is documented in How it works.

What runs on this page, and what runs on a Tierline server

In your browser

What runs on this page. 24-band normalized log-mel features and subsequence DTW, computed in a Web Worker. It is deliberately small so it works on a static site with no server and no upload, for the example recordings here and for your own recordings in the Workspace.

Local retrieval engine

XLS-R layer-11 features, PCA-256, calibrated int8 storage, policy-partitioned FAISS retrieval and subsequence DTW reranking, running locally against an authorized archive (How it works).
